I really could not eat anything i caught coarse fishing. I have banged the odd trout on the head that i have caught by accident though so i am a bit 2 faced.

Thing is you get so much pleasure out of planning, stalking, hooking, the thrills and spills of playing such a fish that to put it back and nurse it in the margins so it gets enough energy to swim away just adds to the whole thing.

I fully understand that most people don't get it, but if you had fought and played a big carp / pike / barbel you would understand.

Not many waters these days insist you remove the big predators like pike and zander, in fact it's quite rightly frowned upon.

The Zander is the one for eating by all accounts, very tasty. The Polaks poach our carp and eat them but the ones that do that are scum bags and should be deported immediately. If they can't abide by our rules and customs then f*ck off. Similiar to the religious nut jobs who reside her and want to blow us up.. It's no different, fish have feelings as well.

By the way, I simply sent the pics to Bro via MMS and asked him to email them to me - and he goes and puts them up here.

For any one remotely interested it just went over the magical 20lb barrier by 4oz. Fell to a floatfished roach deadbait and did the whole tailwalking thing during the fight. Had another of 14lb and a couple of jacks as well.

i do alot of fishing mainly trout (took my wee boy today for a couple of hours) but i did a fair bit of pike fishing when i was younger i have only had one over the 20lb mark.

I have been doing a fair bit of carping this year, although i have to admit im a bit fed up of all the bullsh1t around it, and the noddies, and the 'instant carpers'

Best so far is this at 29lb 4oz.

2) what the "noddies" are?
3) what is "instant carpers"?

My guess at the above:-

1) I caught one this BIG?
2) Carp with Big Ears?
3) Instant carpers - open a jar and spoon them out into your net? Bit like making a cup of instant Nescafe?

thats a nice fish, never really done the carp fishing as there are not that many places in scotland to do it.
i have done alot of sea fishing i used to work off angola, nigeria etc (basically the shi*holes of the world)but the fishing offshore was world class i got 250kg of tuna in two evenings all on rod and reel i was burst after that. i have been lucky enough to catch a sail fish and dorado 50lb+. loved that part of the job!!

Carp fishing is a massive business these days (Did you see all over the news last week about ‘Benson’) Along with this goes all the secrecy, the lies and the attitudes.

Noddies:-

The guys that don’t have respect for the water, the environment, or a fellow angler. They will cast a 4oz lead within a few yards of your baited spot if they have seen you catch. They will have their bite alarms on FULL at night and not turn them off when re-setting lines. Will use a bait boat just because it looks cool, not because it’s needed. Leave rubbish. Use badly tied rigs that put the fish in danger. Etc. Etc.
