Stolen !

Postby The Swede » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:36 pm

If ever you see one of these, it's probably somewhere up North or in Devon. You can't fcuking miss it...

Three days before hoping to get a bit of a holiday...

Came home yesterday: They ripped open the electrical gates, managed to get the wheelclamp to dissappear and bypassed the HD hitchlock.

Meanwhile they smashed brutally all lighting around the house to bits.

Nothing else went missing, but sure as hell the Evo is not coming back from the dealer at the moment.

Call me if ever you see one of these, there won't be 2 of them in UK.

Yes. Gates were secured, there was a hitchlock in titaniumcoated steel and there was a wheelclamp. Forget any of it detering them.

Two biggest issues (besides insurance) are

1. what's next ? If they come in like that, nothing seems to stop them

2. cannot get another caravan in time for the holiday :(

We know it's travellers, John, and sure I would probably not want it back.

But the reason we think spreading pics is useful, is because Wilk only made 5 of these since September 2008. 3 are sold in Germany, 1 in Austria and 1 in Italy... Hen's teeth?

Police came along and somehow hopes that, since this one stands out so much, it would be spotted more easily and might allow them to catch the gang that has been terrorising the region since weeks stealing motorbikes, caravans, burgling, etc.

It was stolen night of Saturday 27 to Sunday 28. So should have been on the roads yesterday.

Not into hotels. Very crowded in summer and no privacy. Doing hotels already for work the entire year. :(

Thought of renting a caravan where we go every year and where my parents stay. Only 1000,- Euro a week... I sure don't wanna go and camp where Bbigman goes

We'll see. I first hope they manage to do something with the info. Would be great if these guys could be stopped.

I have no idea what these cost, but would it be worth fitting a tracker to one in future?

Most caravans now are fitted with trackers, axle locks, locks on the pegs, hitch locks, alarms, etcetc.
Any mechanical obstacle gets broken. For the trackers, they seem to have a device to locate them in the caravan and by the time they have left your drive or the storage, the tracker is already out.

Many people seem to not know how much security is required at caravan storages across the UK. It's just stupid. They need to have CCTV, alarms, barriers, bollards you can raise, ...
The UK has the second highest number of caravans in Europe (approx 700000) and the highest rate of theft (about 20000 per year !).

The insurances put bigger requirements on storages and on customers for caravans than on garages and owners of cars!

@ poesy: Yes, caravans get insured. The value of one like mine will vary between £25K and £35K with the most exclusive Tabberts and Polars topping £80K. So you want something like that insured.

Sorry to hear about this Sandy, I'll keep an eye out for it on the road myself on the off chance, as you say it would be difficult to miss it.

With the Merc hooked up it must have been as long as a 40ft artic

Thanks, mate.

With the Merc, the total length is about 14.5m or more than 43ft indeed. You'd expect the police to notice that... if they were even bothered to assign a guy to the file...

I wouldn't think they'd stay in a nic site. Unfortunately, I cannot figure out where the local gypsy site is in Binfield.
