Slightly irresponsible surely ? Why would you buy your kid a 400bhp
car in which he may probably kill himself and possibly others aswell.,

Madness.

Maybe an M3 is "small change". Surely the "value of money" is relative to the size of the pot it comes from?

Not really, no.

You understand the value of money by earning it, not being given it - nomatter what size the pot!!

Fully disagree mate. Why waste time earning it if your folks can give it to you.

Doesn't matter what car you give a 16 year old, they are usually attracted to ditches or trees/walls.

My only hope is that if this should occur, nobody else is in the car and nobody else is involved and that he doesn't burden the taxpayer with any medical bills...

John, I think they all pay medical insurance in the states dont they ?

I can see your point bro, but still, surely they could have bought him a brand new car which was slightly less powerful, a prius perhaps

Im a great believer as POESY says, you should teach your kids the value of money, no matter how wealthy you are, I recall when I was 5/5 years old my chores were mapped out on a chart for me, there was a lot of jobs to be done in order to earn my 17.5p pocket money per week, when it went upto 22.5p I was delighted, 5 more giant gobstoppers. :D

The rich people can afford med insurance, the rest get it with a job I understand.... If you are poor and you ain't got a job then you have to claim on the social for medical costs but I think it is heavily means tested!!

1/2 pennys... that's going back a bit!!

Why spend half your life "learning" to respect money and then your other half respecting it SO much that you are scared to spend it... You can't take it with you FFS.

It is all relative.

This reminds me of a guy who worked beside me years ago, his old boy bought him a Mcrae series when he passed his test at 17 (back when they just came out) then got him a 22b with cash in the glove pocket when they came on the go.
Neither cars were strangers to the bodyshop!!!
