If I could live with main dealer servicing and the hassles and money involved with that id have gone for a F430 there is one local to me which I could have had for 80k.

Lovely cars.

80k is not bad for a F430. dread to think what servicing is like. more expensive than a lambo? :?

Its not only the yearly timing belt/chain bud, its the distance to my nearest fezza dealership, and your looking at 3k per visit.

Im afraid, im not doing that well yet.

Plus I dont feel that the 430 would properly fulfil my needs, I need something which I can drive a few times a week to meetings and things
the ferrari would just be a joke really, it would be like going back to the csl, no comfort, stupid noise and all stripped out ?!

Its local to me

www.morrisonmotors.co.uk/used-cars/view ... i-F430-Man

And was very tempting!! I could have had it for well under 80.

Presa will back me up here, when you press the button to start the M5 you hear a little whirring sound, that is infact a WR1 motor firing up which in turn starts up the Big V10 :D

That whirring sound is actually your ego / head growing as you sit down in the drivers seat and not a WR1 firing up - surely there must be a medical condition for this by now as all bmw drivers seem to suffer from it ;)

Sounds to me like you are having a mid life crisis. "I like the noise it makes" and "Its comfy to drive". I mean if you were going to downgrade from the monsterous WR1, why not get something like an el-cheapo Jag which has a bit of power and is comfy for old men on the verge of retiring. You didnt have to spend all that on an M5 just to get a comfy ride... ;)

PS.. i think if we all had the cash we would all go V8 or V10 :D

FPMSL - 5th Gear is like the Top Gear for special needs.

Just bought CAR mag and there is an article comparing the M5 vs XFR vs RS6. The M5 is the best 'all rounder' but the RS6 is the best drivers car and the XFR is the most comfortable  The RS6 has quite a lot more power than the other 2

My money would be on an FQ400, they did mention in the footnotes that "although a formal comparison couldn't be made, they would prefer an FQ400 any day of the week over these Cathedrals on wheels"...

FPMSL... Role up Poesy!

Hence why 5th Gear like the Megane womans shopping car hence it doesn't need rear seats?

The RS6 is a beast but not for me in estate form, not with that price tag anyway,. and the Jag well, it will probably be just as toss as the rest of there supercharged attempts

Autocar have published a BMW M5 -v- Jaguar XFR twin test this week. The XFR wins "Fact is, the XFR wins this test and wins it well."

They do say the M5 is still fantastic if you want a car to tame and is rough and ready rather than smooth but finish up by saying that after a half century wait Jaguar have finally built another world-beating super-saloon.

I just cant see it though bud, Really I cant, Jag's are garbage period, But my pal's Sales Manager in Inverness Jaguar, so If they are as good as you say, I shall give him a call and go down and get one out just as soon as the demo arrives.

heres a review

http://www.imotormag.co.uk/testdrives/2 ... eview.html

hmmm, Im not convinced, they need to supercharge it to get the same power as the V10 not impressed with that, and I bet its not as Insane, plus the 0-62 time is half a second slower and the the quarter mile time is near a second slower.

Just out of interest, how does the M5 compare to the WR1 0-62?

Interestingly they also say in their sum-up "Fact is, though the figures don't show it, it's quicker in a straight line than the M5 and more fluent through the corners......"

also "XFR is a phenomenal achievement for Jaguar; it is quicker point to point than the M5, and more supple......."

and "The surprise is that where the XFR makes the M5 feel oldest is in the corners"

I've no axe to grind here just quoting what I have been reading today.

I would love to own either car and probably may have looked at a second hand M5 if the racing wasn't so bloody expensive!

XFR looks awesome IMO. Not sure it's something I would buy, but I've seen lots of reviews raving about it
