Had a D3 for well over a year now and very impressed with it.
It's the base model TDV6 but has full leather and a few other goodies added
Loads of room, enough for 3 kiddy seats in the 2nd row if required and a shed sized boot even when the 3rd row is being used.
Very capable off the black stuff although you cannot mechanically lock the diff.
Probably average high 20mpg's and that includes plenty of school runs.
As for the Volvo a friend has one be it very nice inside it just fells more like a big car than a proper 4x4, nowhere near the space of the Disco or the road stature but as you would expect from Volvo it has safety features galore.
Feel free to nip up to Aberdeenshire for a test drive as long as you leave your very nicely modded 1 to hit the B roads
Eck
The WR1 be safe in the knowledge that, short of strapping yourself to an Acme rocket, there's no quicker way to get from A to B.

Nice comparison there mate, yer the wife goes out with her mum and sister plus our two nephews quite a lot so needs 3 booster seats/car seats, not many cars have a full size middle seat. the volvo looks to have a built in booster seat.
Had a look at both tonight and my opinion is volvo looks comfy for long journeys, has loads of toys but the off road side of thing will be like the X3 - a bit of an after though. The boot with all 7 seats up is bigger than Disco3. middle row of seats move forward/back independently.
Disco3 doesnt have the same number of toys, looks to have more headroom and boot space, more legroom, seats locked in position for 2nd and 3rd row. Much higher driving position, settings for offroad and hill descent, looks like mechanically it will go most places, probably more practical.
So its down to comfort vs practicality... two im looking at are 19k and 40,000 miles / 2007.
As for the offer - you can certainly take the tweaked wr1 for a spin although you wont get far by the way it guzzles fuel now

Seems like a decent price, what spec are they?
I got a few ££££££ change out of 20k with 26,000 miles on the clock
Difference between base model and HSE can easy be 5-6K with similar miles

This is a GS model - 3yr warranty is 600 notes extra. wont budge on price but most ive seen wont as they are selling quick. Also part ex for my mondeo is 5k when they are on autotrader for 7k grrr...
Think the wifes fallen for that over the volvo after gazing at them both all night.

My money would be the D3 all day long. I would be pushing for the HSE too. Purely for resale and I prefer cars with toys.

That will be why he wanted to meet at Morrisons
On another note - Discovery 3 now has a deposit paid so its final days for the Mondeo ST. Going to really miss the torque! Will take my map off it before we hand it over and see what superchips charge for an upgrade to the disco remap. If its silly money that will go on ebay and i will get a diesel tuning box
