my work...

Postby wr1.305 » Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:19 pm

O.K. as some of you know i work at the Fire Service College in Moreton in Marsh, which is a Training centre which supply variours coures for fire brageds, such as Fire behaviours, an USAR (urban search and rescue which was put together after 9/11)
My job roll is to service and repair the breathing appuratus that the students and instructors use. but sometimes they let me out to play.....like today!

so here i have a few pics and vids (if it works) of a couple of controled excercies we hold.
the first one is a Fire screen, which bascically consists of a massive gas fed wall of fire, with a control valve at the front. the objective is to funnel a wall of water to protect the fire fighters from heat and plames untill they reach the valve (which controls the gas flow) and turn it off to kill the fire. this teaches the students how to use water as a protective shield and also malipulate the fire to behave how you want it too....

The second of the two is the same objectice as the first , but this time its a gas leak from a broken flange. again they work as a unit to control the fire and protect then selfs from the heat!

i was wearing full fire PPE and you wouldnt belive how hot it was!!! thought my phone was guna melt!!!

hope you enjoyed this lil insite into my job.

Wow what an amazing job, i know a couple of fire fighters up here and they both enjoy their job. They said they can legally ram any cars parked in their way and blocking access out of the way. They told us a story of ramming a reliant robin once that just shattered apparently.

Certainly puts my IT job to shame although i do my bit in contributing to keeping the net alive by surfing all day long when im not having to actually fix things ;)
