Nice pics Stu
Note the concerned look on my face when the car recorded a miserable 272 BHP
Shame you weren't around later on when I was jumping around like a big kid when the car pulled 336 lb ft
A great day was had by all at the Prosport rolling road day, we were among the first people to use the newly refurbished facilities after a fire destroyed the building a few months ago.
About 30 cars ran on the day , mostly scoobies but we also had a Skyline, an Evo, a Skoda diesel which had more torque than my car and a Clio 172.
As usual Pete and the staff at Prosport went out of their way to help everyone solve any little niggles that their cars may have had and they also gave us use of the workshop and tools to carry out any little jobs on our own cars. Richard Bulmer who carries out all of Prosports mapping was in attendance to give any advice regarding ecu related problems.
Anyway, back to my car. Three runs were carried out giving figures of about 272 bhp and 260 lb ft of torque, I was very dissapointed with these figures as my car is a PPP and I was expecting nearer to the quoted 305 bhp. Later in the day Richard agreed to investigate the problem and started by checking if the ecu actually was a PPP, it was discovered that the car was running PPP albeit the earlier version which uses a piggyback board in the ecu rather than the flash reprogramming found on the later cars. This earlier system is considered to be a little crude by todays standards but the main downside is the ecu's inability to correct itself after it has retarded the timing due to poor fuel. In light of this Richard decided to reset the ecu, the airfilter was checked and binned as it was filthy even though the car has been recently serviced by Sparshatts
.
Armed with a reset ecu and a new STI panel filter the car was put back on the rollers and three more runs were carried out, the difference was amazing, power was increased slighty to 285.5 BHP but far more importantly torque had risen from 260 lb ft to a mighty 336 lb ft
On the road the car is totally transformed and now pulls much harder from much lower revs and all it cost was
