Lost at Le Mans

I found a lost sheep at the Le Mans 24h this year.
Image
The owner was a spot on guy who has popped onto the site before he said to register the car.
I think the car was number 415.
After spending the weekend in France for the 24h i can now see a wr1oc trip coming up as this was tonnes of fun and quite a cheap long weekend too.

I'll step forward as owning the lost sheep.

As for being a lost sheep at Circuit de la Sarthe, well not really, given this year was my 9th year. The five of us had yet another a fantastic year, not having met up for sometime. Every year we operate a strict policy of continuous improvement. This years addition (besides the one) is going to be a little difficult to beat. My mate from Belgium (Dutch tax exile) rented a motorhome. Yeah OK before the comments start - hot shower, personal bog, kitchenette, satellite TV ... I'm I winning you over yet? If not I'll mention we rented it for 380 euros, which when split 5 ways over a Le Mans race week is pretty good value! I've yet join the Ilusion I670 owners club. If I've not won you over, well ... continue to enjoy sleeping in broken glass and waking up to damp canvass. It's the way forward !

So the one; Owning a WRX Sti has always been on the to-do list. Having attended numerous WRC events, sadly as a spectator only, and being a big Solberg fan, I decide the time had come. It was time move WRX Sti ownership from the to-do, to the to-done list, and if I were to this, it simply had to be a WR1. I picked it up from South London earlier this year, with the intention of always taking it to Le Mans. It's completely unmodified, and only needed a minor amount of TLC (Alloys, wing mirror etc) - Speaking of which I'll be taking it down to Cross Roads Garage (Tredington) for their 30th birthday (maybe catch you there). After a minor service it was pleasing to hear I'd picked up a peach. Whether it was lip service or not, it was still pleasing to hear. Oh at the sametime as putting my car in, I took them up on a test drive of their 330S. I wasn't convinced, the rear simply wasn't as tight as I expected it to be, having made it step out a couple of times with no effort. DCCD set to auto BTW. It was a pleasure to be back in my WR1 a week later.

Everytime I drive it, it brings a smile to my face. In my A3 (day to day car) if I could only pass 2 or 3 cars on a short stretch, then the WR1 will pass 5 cars and the lorry slowing us all up. 3rd and 4th gears are simply a joy, with 5th not being too bad either ;-)

Anyway, 'the lost sheep' will now sign off. When I get a chance I'll post some more pics, and before I get inundated with requests for pics of the Ilusion I670. The following will have to suffice for the timebeing :) - http://www.autocaravanasilusion.com/mod ... 0-fr.shtml

Cheers - OL

Welcome to the fold matey. I actually went through Le Mans on the Sunday but arrived just after the race had finished. Doh!

Love those smooth empty French roads. After being stuck on a rock of only 27 square miles and rammed with 40k cars it's nice to unlease the right foot

Getting a group together one year sounds like a plan to me and at the risk of being outcast I'd have to agree with you on the motorhome!

Always wanted to do Le Mans but never had the opportunity, got the urge for a petrol head road trip now :P

Not too sure a 2 week old baby would enjoy that though

Presa,
Our new baby was only 2 weeks old but the trip was booked before we new about the arrival of another little person.

It cost me and my mate £75 to take the car across on the ferry (VIP both ways).
Which i thought was a great price to get across.
The tickets and camping was around the £170 mark.
We did 3 tank's of fuel (1200miles) door to door.
So this was a trip worth while and did not cost an arm and a leg.
Defo going next year if our hols fall ok.
