I'll step forward as owning the lost sheep.
As for being a lost sheep at Circuit de la Sarthe, well not really, given this year was my 9th year. The five of us had yet another a fantastic year, not having met up for sometime. Every year we operate a strict policy of continuous improvement. This years addition (besides the one) is going to be a little difficult to beat. My mate from Belgium (Dutch tax exile) rented a motorhome. Yeah OK before the comments start - hot shower, personal bog, kitchenette, satellite TV ... I'm I winning you over yet? If not I'll mention we rented it for 380 euros, which when split 5 ways over a Le Mans race week is pretty good value! I've yet join the Ilusion I670 owners club. If I've not won you over, well ... continue to enjoy sleeping in broken glass and waking up to damp canvass. It's the way forward !
So the one; Owning a WRX Sti has always been on the to-do list. Having attended numerous WRC events, sadly as a spectator only, and being a big Solberg fan, I decide the time had come. It was time move WRX Sti ownership from the to-do, to the to-done list, and if I were to this, it simply had to be a WR1. I picked it up from South London earlier this year, with the intention of always taking it to Le Mans. It's completely unmodified, and only needed a minor amount of TLC (Alloys, wing mirror etc) - Speaking of which I'll be taking it down to Cross Roads Garage (Tredington) for their 30th birthday (maybe catch you there). After a minor service it was pleasing to hear I'd picked up a peach. Whether it was lip service or not, it was still pleasing to hear. Oh at the sametime as putting my car in, I took them up on a test drive of their 330S. I wasn't convinced, the rear simply wasn't as tight as I expected it to be, having made it step out a couple of times with no effort. DCCD set to auto BTW. It was a pleasure to be back in my WR1 a week later.
Everytime I drive it, it brings a smile to my face. In my A3 (day to day car) if I could only pass 2 or 3 cars on a short stretch, then the WR1 will pass 5 cars and the lorry slowing us all up. 3rd and 4th gears are simply a joy, with 5th not being too bad either
Anyway, 'the lost sheep' will now sign off. When I get a chance I'll post some more pics, and before I get inundated with requests for pics of the Ilusion I670. The following will have to suffice for the timebeing
