WR1OC Trip to the BTCC

Postby RobinSherwood » Tue Dec 19, 2006 10:00 am

Hi Guys,

As suggested in 'The Ultimate Drive' thread I could try and organise a trip to a round (or rounds) of the British Touring Car Championship.

As some of you already know I look after a very promising young driver in the Formula BMW Championship which is part of the BTCC package. As a result of his performance last year he was invited to go to Valencia for the Dell Formula BMW World final as Oliver Turvey's team mate. As a result of that he has been offered the Team Loctite drive for the 2007 season replacing Oliver who will obviously be moving up the ladder. (In case anyone missed it Oliver Turver won the McLaren Autosport Young Driver Award this year!)

Therefore I should hopefully be able to put together a more interesting day than just buying tickets and turning up.

I can obtain passes for the BMW hospitality facility (which is the best outside the F1 paddock) this would include breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, wine, beer, tea, coffee and all soft drinks. The hospitality suite has large screen TV's for following the action and at many circuits is situated track side.

I can arrange for everyone to have a tour of the Team Loctite set up and Tom will show people round his BMW FB02 race car.

Having met him hopefully as well as enjoying the BTCC races (and the beer  ) you will have the fun of cheering him on in his two races as well.

To start with I need to guage the interest there would be in this.

It would help if you guys could suggest which round or rounds you would like me to try and arrange something for.

Make any suggestions for anything to make this trip more appealing.

Give me an idea what you would be prepared to pay for a package like this (bearing in mind the BMW hospitality etc.,..) so I know what budget to aim for when talking to people to arrange this.

I will find the provisional dates for the rounds the Formula BMW Champiosnhip are attending and post below.

Regards

Robin

That sounds a great offer 8)

Either Donnington or brands for best spectator viewing and paddock. Watching at Silverstone is terrible.

I have no idea on price either.

I'm interested too... Sounds like it could be a rather special day out.

Cost - I have no idea but I'm sure it would be worth the expense :thumb:

Nice one Robin of Motorsport

I visit a number of the BTCC Rounds anyway but it would be a good day out for all if you can get enough members interested. I would suggest Silverstone as the central meet with Donnington as the Northern and Brands as the Southern.

OK great it looks like this is worth doing and should be good fun.

In the New Year I should be able to find out what BMW are charging entrants for Hospitailty passes next year and what deal I can get on tickets at the various circuits.

First of all I have to ensure Tom has the budget to race or I won't be able to organise any of this!

I will keep you all updated and get bits of information as and when I can.

Kind regards,

Robin

Hi Dan,

Donington are not willing to give a ticket price as yet, but Brands Hatch have announced prices.

I can't get hold of the person I need to speak to at BMW so I am not able to get their hospitality prices for 2007.

I would think I could do this for somewhere in the region of

Hi there,

At the moment despite having being offered Oliver Turvey's drive at Team Loctite and backing from Henkel Loctite we have been unable to secure the remaining necessary budget to sign the contract. As things stand right now Tom will not do the full season :( and is likely to lose the Team Loctite drive.

We haven't given up and anything could still happen and worst case he will hopefully compete in a few selected rounds. Bit manic today, I will give a fuller update over the weekend.

Kind regards,

Robin

Sorry to hear the bad news about Tom and lack of sponsorship

Good things were being mentioned about him in Autosport mag..

Typical of this country when a talent arrives ...the funding stops !
