New Year in Lapland?

We're spending New Year in Lapland (Levi) again this year.

We're renting one (or more) log cottages for the week of 27-12 -> 3-1.

If you are interested in joining us, let me know by 5 October. We are currently a group of approx 10 people of different nationalities (British, German, Russian, kiwi, Belgian, Czech and Finnish).

Approximate cost for the cottage is 100 Euros per person for the week.
I tend to add a ballpark 100 euros for food and consumables and about 50-100 euros for local transport (although we got 3 cars currently available in Finland already).

Levi itself is one of the best skiing resorts in Finland (www.levi.fi). All cottages are equiped with log-fire, sauna, etc.

Travel to there, if you're booking early, is approx £350 whereby you fly to Oulu and we travel all from there. Alternative is to fly to Helsinki and take the night train (some couples like that option) or you get one of the few flights to Kittila.

Yeah I have a cottage a the top of the main road out of town...next to the main Ski-Do hire place....opposite end to the roundabout and main hotel complex.

There are flights to Kittila from the UK, but these may well be charter flights from the Ski operators, but some are for the Santa Claus trips too.

Other options is to fly to Rovaniemi and Levi is about 1.5hrs drive north of there...

Websites to check are:-

www.finnair.com (part of One-World so you still get BA airmiles)
www.fc.fi (FinComm Airlines - Internal flights from Helsinki)
www.vr.fi (Finnish Rail - with very good English details and timetables)

Not sure yet if I will be there over the New Year...we have a little one and its a little too cold at that time of year for a mobile puking, pooping machine.

As a side note - Levi is a great place for all levels of skier or snowboarder and has lots of good runs, as well as fantastic treks for cross country skiing, Ski-Do exploring, ice fishing, husky dog rides or just generally having a laugh driving a car at -20degs in the snow and ice!

Or a great excuse to visit and get some real driving coaching!!

I am trying to get people either to travel straight to Kittila (which is not really easy always) or we just get to Oulu and drive from there.

We leave from Oulu with two friends each with their cars. So allows us to take another 6-7 people. So if we need an additional car, I'll just my buddy at AVIS there to sort something out and we can spread the costs.

I'd never advise to go to the Kankkunen or Makinen school though. Stupid prices just. (1000 Euros and more for a day ! ) They're also "just a little bit out of the way" if you go to Levi.
Markko Ipatti does a 2 day course all included for 450 Euros...

Anyway, this trip is simply to enjoy New Year.

PS: CAVEMAN, if you're not going, you renting your cottage ?

Yeah they are crazy prices but the people who the run the course is a list of who's who of finnish rally drivers and codrivers....I guess you get what you pay for. The venue is in Kuusamo so a couple of hours drive away for sure..

Would be an awesome New Year...Levi is great anyway, so whoever is going certainly won't regret it.

Sorry mate, the cottage is not for rent - just private usage right now.

Maybe next year after we finish the new apartments.

We never said we'd rent it. Sure as a contribution to the club we can use it ?

We always welcome any member at our home ! :?
