Id rather do buxton on a weekend or bank holiday so that we can have some time to catch up and get to know people and do a run on the great roads that way. I agree with John that 2.5hrs on a night is a bit over the top as wed literally get there eat and have to set off back... i dont mind travelling up to an hour on an evening alternatively if booked in advanced a weekend event :)

What about that Turnpike that I suggested? Is that considered as "half-way" or not?

That's a long drive for you Stu if you are coming after work! I reckon it'll take you 1.5-2 hours traffic dependant. Where abouts are you again, did you say West side of Manchester?

Did you take a look at the Turnpike Pub that I put a link to? That is a lot nearer to you than Burley-in-wharfedale and is a decent drive for us so 50:50 I reckon....

if he doesnt mind the drive let him come... he might finish work earlier than you and me.... I know rush hour on the M62 around J26 doesnt clear up until about 7pm normally as I sit and stare at it all day from my office window and have worked late recently...unless the schools are off.. Its the Leeds commuters eventually getting out of leeds and booting it to manchester that slow things down...

Generous pioneer is 15 mins from my house - 20 mins at rush hour

Turnpike if the M62 is bad could take quite a while to get to depending on traffic. It is always stop start from apperly bridge through sticker lane and to the M606 eta 45 mins just to get to the motorway then probably another 30-40 mins to get from M606 to J22 at a guess at rush hour. On a weekend when its clear it will be 20 mins to M606 and 15 mins to go that distance probably..

could do with somewhere easy to get to at rush hour ideally which would mean something fairly close or something over the tops on the roads mostly clear...
