We will have an area allocated to us for 50 cars this year so even those who are not going on the track can have a nice safe place to park right near the action. Please put your name on the list so I know who will be driving and who will be parking. There are the usual exhibitors passes for everyone and then the visitors passes for any other people you want to invite. These people will park on the public parking area away from the track and there is the usual £5 entry fee. I will print up plenty of passes for those who will be meeting up in convoy and I'll send an email with the pass to print out for those who are making their own way there.
The format for the day is the same as last year. 6 cars on track at any one time but we must ensure that at least half of our cars are Subarus of some description. Last year there were a few complaints when people queued for a ride in a Scooby and there were a variety of other cars on our gate instead. Non WR1's are still welcome of course - you're all members after all and we don't want this to be an exclusive event, but as we are booked in as a Subaru owners club, that is what the public will be expecting. With 50 cars at our disposal I don't think we will have a problem keeping up with demand this year. If everyone is ok with this, I thought I'd fill the places firstly with WR1 members and any friends that you are inviting, then offer any remaining places to the Midlands Scoobies as they helped us out last year when people were running out of steam.
Some of the extra attractions this year are the attendance of not one but possibly two Stigs. Some tyre companies will be coming too, but I don't know which ones. Might be useful if you've shredded your tyres on the track and don't want to drive home on your rims!!! There will be a bit more to entertain the ladies in the form of a fashion show and the opportunity to buy stuff. Plus the usual funfair for the kids, food stalls, a band, air display, motorbike display team etc, etc.
For those who are travelling some distance the organisers have done a deal with The Hinckley Island Hotel for a twin or double room with breakfast for £55 (£27.50 per person) It is a four star hotel with an international reputation and you get to use all the facilities - pool, sauna, jacuzzi. Just mention "On Your Marks" when booking to ensure you get the discounted rate. Several of us live in and around Hinckley so there won't be a problem hooking up with anyone staying at The Island.
Finally, does anyone know who has the WR1 banner? We will be setting up the gazebo on our gate the same as last year so we could do with having the banner. If the Midlands Scoobies have a banner to bring, we can set up a gazebo on our parking area as well. That way people can keep an eye on the parked cars and have somewhere to sit.
Any other ideas to make the day even better will be appreciated.
hope this helps
and welcome simon
