Stinking clutch

Postby mpr » Tue Jan 18, 2005 1:01 pm

Is it just me, or do you all get a burning clutch smell if you pull off in anything other than a geriatric manner?

It's not as if I'm doing a 0-60 challenge - I'm just trying to make sure I don't get embarrassed by whichever hot hatch is currently trying to take the p!ss.

I've just seen a thread on scoobynet where a guy has been quoted between 800 and 1200 squid for a new clutch (03 STI)!!!! Looks like I better start letting the hot hatches win

It does seem that way. I think it's because the cars seem to bog down unless you give it large on the loud pedal.
That's a bit steep for a new clutch.

Had this with my STIPPP and WR, two sepearte dealers both advised that it was quite normal, however such lauches in excess will ware the clutch quicker. Not checked warranty in detail so not sure if we would be covered, I assume not.

One way to look at it is that with the OE clutch gone you can change it to something better/stronger. And it should be cheaper than getting it done at a main dealer.

Only small clutch slipage and i get the cockpit full of clutch smell, a normal hill start will make it smell.

Very embarrasing if you have friends / family in the car with you.
