Time for one of my stupid questions!

The service is due at 5000 miles or 6 months. Mine will be due on time rather than mileage and i'm trying to work out when it's due. Is it 6 months from the date i picked the car up or 6 months from the date of the 1000 mile service? :?

:? on my service book on the months there is only 12, 24,36 months, on the miles1,5,10,15,etc, i think it is what comes up first, will be expensive if you have to have your 5000 mile service about 2 or 3 months before your yearly one, will be interesting what is the correct way of doing this confusing subject :?

The service books do read like that but let me see if i can shead anymore light on the subject.

Long story short (ish  ) The dealer i bought my WR1 from was also the dealer i had purchased my previous car from(MY02 WRX). I was the 3rd person to pick the car up and also the 3rd person to take mine in for the 1000 mile service. Whilst i was there i asked about the 5000 mile services and time scales for cars that didn't do many miles a year and was told, "Oh, sorry don't know we've not had it pointed out to us before. I'll check on that for you and call you to let you know" Four months on i'm still waiting...

On going to my first couple of Scooby meets i was warned off using the dealer due to a number of problems other owners have had with them, mainly on the servicing side. A bit of digging on a couple of problems i had and was fobbed off on confirmed to me that i would be better going elsewhere. So i went to another dealers, who most of the local owners use. It's a bit further away but the service is first class. (Gatwick Subaru if anyone wonders. I don't mind naming them as they've been top notch to deal with). I asked the service manager there what happens with the 5000 mile services as the car only does about 8000 miles a year and he told me that it was every 6 months or 5000 miles.

There we go, i've finished rambling!

Hope that helps. :)

right so you have to have a service every 6 months then, cant be a bad thing, at least you get some nice clean oil in. :D

Yup, i checked mine at the weekend. The level's fine but the oil is pretty grubby. I've wound the rev warning light down to 5000 rpm just to be on the safe side!

:? why is it most people get geometry done? don't prodrive do a very good job at setting up the wheels?, you would have thought it would be spot on

Not sure on that one. Perhaps Mike Wood can fill us in on that?

Prodrive seem to have just about everything else right, maybe it's a dealer setting when the car's are PDI'd?

Mr Litchfield (yes it was him) said that the local dealer takes all cars (or could have been all WR1's but think it was all cars) to Powerstation for geometry before selling them. But although Crossroads are not that far from Cheltenham they are not the local dealer there are at least two nearer so I assumed he was talking about the Cheltenham dealer, CD Bramalls.

The 5000 mile service is on miles only, If you only did 5000 miles a year you would have the 10000 mile service done at 1 year otherwise you could have this situation say you do 4000 miles in the first six months and have the 5000 service done at six months and 4000 miles and then you do 6000 miles in the next six months the 1 year 10000 service would become due at 9000 miles when the car is only 11 months old as it would be 5000 since the last oil change, this would not be fair, the service book states 5000 miles with no reference to time, Mine is getting done at 5000 miles regardless of time and main service at one year or 10000 miles whichever comes first and subsequent 5000 oil changes getting done 5000 miles from last main service.

Yes, 5000 miles or 6 months for the interim service then 10000 miles or 12 months for the next.

Had a nightmare when I first got mine, 291, geometry was out and car pulled to the left - after 4 visits to the dealers who took it in every time and then said it was fixed it stilled pulled. Subaru initially refused to cover under warranty as they said any simple knock can displace it - after several letters later subaru assessed the car and replaced tires and wheels and a few other bits, now its fine, finally - If your car is out at 5000 miles dont expect Subaru to cover it under warranty took me a 5 weeks and many threatening letters at 100 miles to get them to sort it  .

Thats true, a small ditch can push out the steering allignment.

When i had mine corrected the rear offside wheel was out, the steering geometry graph here shows that.

TSL sorted it out and now it wants to turn into corners :)

What do you expect from a main dealer?????!
They've got fancy showrooms to pay for and demo vehicles for people to thrash around in for 24 hours!!

I think we should all book one with our dealers for the same day and go on a bit of a sprint!!

You sure have to keep an eye on them, the screenwash one is an old one that most try and then there is few pounds on as sundries (mechanics newspaper and fags maybe?)

Always fill my screenwash BEFORE a service, but once a dealer managed to get a few drops in and left the remaining 99% in the bottle in the glove box and charged a fiver for it.

Buying oil in 45 gallon drums but charge it out as 9 x 1/2 ltr containers.

Another used to say when booking a service "its about
