WR1 battery removal, will I wipe ECU?

Postby koicarp » Sat Feb 07, 2015 2:09 pm

Hey guys,

By battery is dead, I've taken it out the car and now I'm worried the ECU is going to be wiped or reset. It's the factory tune but will it wipe anything Prodrive/Subaru have done to help get it above 300bhp?

I guess what I'm asking is, really stupid question maybe, will the car go back to being a normal STI?

Thanks,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Im sorry your battery has gone flat  yes your WR1 will now revert back to a standard 265hp STI  not to worry though when you put a new battery on the car will remember that it was or still is a WR1... its memory will come flooding back..... You will need to take it for a drive to help the ecu learn how a proper WR1 behaves :bang:

Hope this helps :woohoo:

No don't worry it will not affect the map on the car absolutely no danger of that at all. You might clear the ecu but this is not the same as wiping the ecu, the ecu is constantly learning and changing settings to suit fuel, atmosphere (temps) etc clearing the ecu just clear clears these settings and the ecu just starts learning and adjusting again to suit what its sensing. It does not affect the Prodrive map.

Mike,

It won't wipe the ECU but I think it will go back to the Prodrive factory default settings.

I always find the factory tick over settings for my car a little too low. So whenever I have had to change the battery I usually pop the car into my friendly Subaru specialist the next day to get the tick over speed 'upped'. They tell me that it will sort itself after a little time but I can't be bothered to wait!

Take it for a spirited drive after changing battery and it learns quicker, if you just pootle about in town it will learn town conditions.

Thanks guys, must have seemed like a silly question! Really interesting with the ECU learning. The car doesn't get to see much action unfortunately being in Guernsey - the better petrol over here costing nearly £1.90 per litre I can't afford to drive her often :(

Problem is with her sat in my driveway it might not be helping the battery, I've heard the tracker drains it and to invest in a solar charger to pop on the dash for when I'm not driving it might help?

Thanks,

Mike.

If your not using her regularly then the solar charger is a good idea, there was a thread on Scottishscoobies not long ago about them and a lot of the offshore guys are buying them as their cars are sitting for weeks at a time while their on the rigs and batteries are draining.
I don't have one myself but remember from reading the thread there was two sizes of solar charger and to get the bigger one, they were all buying the same one from amazon.
