Does that mean that if ever I manage to get one, I need to go to Prodrive to get in checked over ?

But Mr. Smith from the Dales, your car is no longer standard or covered by a warranty. If it'd done what it was claimed it would do when you bought it you wouldn't have had to kill the warranty.

To Prodrive's defence....

No-one ever claimed 320bhp, it's 320ps. ps are EU horses, not quite as good as UK horses, so 320ps is about 316bhp.

Second (much less justifiable) defence, did any of the ppp'd STi's ever make the claimed 305ps on the rollers? I think not, all about 5 to 10% less. So even if you don't get the full 316bhp you probably do get 11bhp more genuine bhp than you would on a ppp'd STi. That's good enough for me, I'm happy, and I'm not selling.

My other car is a Caterham and I've been a victim of the rolling road comparison with that too. The engine builder claims X bhp and backs it up with "corrected" figures from a chassis dyno. But corrected to what? He whirls a wet bulb thermometer, reads a barometer, consults a chart and adjusts the bhp to whatever he wants to. Can you check this? Only with the raw data and knowing what he's correcting to. Some correct to UK "standards" of 1.013 bar 15 degC others to US "standards" of 14.5 psi and 60 degF?? It's all open to so much abuse.

Then the rolling road operator, he has an axe to grind because he did or didn't build the engine, the engine builder slagged him off the month before in the press or some other imagined slight. So he can test your car in 4th gear or 5th gear, at this revs or that revs, all lead to different numbers. Then there's the coast down gearbox loss "corrections". You see figures from 10% to 40% subtracted from measured wheel horsepower to give "flywheel horsepower". It's just nonsense.

The only way to know if your car is doing the business power wise is to take it to the Pod and thrash it. When the flag drops the b*llsh*t stops. It's so true.

Talk of suing Prodrive because some fly by night rolling road operator (potentially, not talking of the one you're going to next month, I don't know them at all) tells you you only have 315bhp a year after you bought it is just laughable. Get a grip. Drive it and enjoy it.

Sounds like a reasonable argument, Chelspeed.

I indeed think some standard STI's and PPP's should be measured at the same time to compare.

On the other hand, there are a massive 23 WR1's for sale on Autotrader and 19 on Subaru.co.uk.

Why all selling ? Rich kids bored with their toy ?

Had mine on the Midland Scoobies RR day, equipment used Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer date 7th May, I am told that this is the most accurate equipemt available and there are only a handful of them in the country. WRC use the same, so the 18th should be good.

I got 310 bhp and 297 torque, they noticed a small mis-fire and asked if the service was due, answer yes, they told me to get the plugs changed, they told me that if this was done they felt it would make Prodrives claims.

Not got too much mechanical knowledge, so I will see what the 18th brings as I hope to have it serviced before this date.

I wanted a car that was special, ie more power, instead I have a car that is very possibly a sheep in wolfs clothing, we all have to wait until after the next RR day, but if they are down you are accepting a substandard product, if they are at the mark then I will be happy.
If you read other forums, EVO in particular they usually have more power than advertised.

Mr WR1 from prodrive was at the first fly-by-night rolling road.
Number 12 back with me after a 6 year break.

PS: These mad people here actually DO organise drag races on the sea in winter.

But then with old Vauxhall Carltons and Volvo 240's !

When you got that photobucket ready, I'll show you what "alternative use" they made of the horse racing track few months ago...

How many miles have u all done??? The engines might still not be totally loosened up. Anything over the 10k should be well run in.

No rolling roads up here nearest is 200miles away but what i do know is that my Girlfriends Type R running GEMS ecu has been RR'd at 312hp & i can pull on that! So i'm quite happy with what i've got :D
DRIVE IT & ENJOY IT :D

Gee, I understand yours is faster than your girl's Type R then. So we got one at least delivering the power claimed !

How does it go in winter in the highlands ? Do you often get to drive it on ice and snow ?

I'm not so much interested by the power, but more by the active diffs. The passive one require you to really adapt your driving style to get the best out of the car.

How does it go in the winter... Most WR1 owners either leave them in the garage (don't get salty) or drive them really slow so as to not risk mashing the alloys.

Maybe we could organise an event to Telford Ice Rink for Tory.

Maybe he was saying something about the shape of your head?

Are you popping across for the RR day... no different to popping abroad for a service?

I need a scoob for that.

Mine was taken away yesterday with a faulty camshaft position sensor.
I've been told it's gonna take a week to get it back (part needs to come from Southern Sweden) :brick:

Besides, I'll be in Seattle that weekend (hope to meet our female Subaru-rally-driving friend Jamie Thomas, www.subiegal.com). It's bit of a long way to come to the UK.

I'd be fairly embarrassed anyway with my standard 265bhp :crying:
